Calanike Retailing Limited has been sold to GB Oils and Thistle Fuel Retailing, boosting the health of the company.
Calanike operates a chain of petrol station around the north of England and Scotland under the Esso and BP brands, as well as some independent stores.
However, receivers were called in at the start of the year and the future of the company's 170 staff at its 19 outlets was put into question.
The accountants who handled the receivership, Zolfo Cooper, continued to trade the business while they looked for a buyer to take it forward. They have said they took control and sold the company's assets on to GB Oils and Thistle, the firm has been on a “strong footing”.
Calanike is headquartered at Kirkintilloch, just north of Glasgow. Of the people employed by the business, 147 have had their jobs saved.
The company is not the only petrol retailer to have struggled. As prices continue to rise and consumers becoming increasingly desperate to keep their costs down, traditional retailers have faced more and more competition from supermarkets and the major oil companies.
