Butchers’ blocks maker S.J.H. Row and Sons Ltd has been sold to plastics business Partwell Group.
Located in Manningtree, Essex S.J.H. Row and Sons was established in 1880 by Joshua Row. The company makes hardwood and polyethylene (plastic) cutting surfaces and butchers’ blocks and also sells metal food preparation tables.
The business has moved about a bit over the years; it was set up in Topsham, Devon, before the company and family moved to North London around 1900 where it stayed until 1967. It now operates form a modern facility in Essex, where the business works on developing production skills and services to customers.
The buyer, Lancashire-based Partwell Group is focused on plastic engineering. Set up in 1979 the family-owned group specialises in cutting technology – supplying CNC machined plastic parts, water jet cutting, food cutting services and other engineered plastic products.
The purchase was completed on 13 May for an undisclosed amount and was guided by KBS Corporate. Tom Eatough, deal executive of the brokers commented: “I am really pleased that we managed to find a suitable buyer for SJH Row & Sons.
“The company has a rich history and they have been market leader in this sector for many years.”
