A frozen fruit and vegetable supplier has been bought out of administration, saving more than 30 jobs in the process.
Burtons Go Bananas Ltd was sold to Bristol Fruit Sales (Market) Ltd, which trades as Total Produce Bristol and is part of the national fruit and vegetable supplier, Total Produce plc.
Neil Vinnicombe and Simon Haskey, partners at Begbies Traynor, were appointed to handle the administration and the sale.
Mr Vinnicombe told Insider Media: “The business was suffering from cash flow difficulties and following the threat of withdrawal of support from major suppliers it became clear that administration and subsequent sale was the only realistic option for ensuring the continuity of business, preserving jobs and securing as much as we could for creditors.
“Had the sale not been achieved the company would have to be placed into liquidation and all jobs lost.”
Burtons Go Bananas has a turnover of around £4 million and generates its profits by supplying produce to more than 400 customers, including restaurants and hotels in the area. It has been trading for 16 years and was incorporated in 2005, before which time it operated as a partnership.
