An award-winning 50s-style American diner in Albert Village, Leicestershire has been put up for sale as its owners look towards retirement.
The 50s American Diner has been successfully run by owners Jeff Laight and Trish Whitehouse for the past 15 years, but the couple have recently announced on social media that their "age and ill health" has rendered it impossible for them to continue.
Laight stated: "It's time to move on, unfortunately. It's just one of those things. We've been doing it for 15 years which is a long time. It was an absolutely awful decision, I don't think Trish has come to terms with it yet."
Commenting on the amount of time the couple had been required to dedicate to the diner, Laight added: "We only open three days a week, but I was here for 12 hours yesterday (a day the diner wasn't open) sorting things out so it's full on trying to keep it going. It takes a lot of upkeep."
The diner, which boasts a food hygiene rating of five-stars, has been a great success in the hands of Jeff and Trish, winning the Best World Cuisine award at The Food Awards England for two consecutive years. However, semi-retirement has resulted in pair only opening on Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays, which has affected profits.
In spite of this, Jeff and Trish insist that there is huge demand for longer opening hours and for the addition of alcohol to the menu, both of which could be explored by new owners if they seek to capitalise on the diner's popularity.
"It's on the market for a lot less than market value," said Jeff, "because we want someone to carry on exactly how it is at the moment."
