Private equity group Aliter Capital has dialled up an acquisition with the purchase of Hereford-based mobile device security firm Serbus.
Serbus, founded in 2010 by former UK Special Forces personnel, provides secure mobile communications, offering top level security, threat protection and compliance. This includes high-profile government and military environments, as well as within multinational corporations, where protection of employees and intellectual property is key.
Serbus supports customers across the UK’s Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) and works closely with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and several UK government departments.
It has seen growing demand driven by the pandemic, the growth of remote working, more critical network and communication services and the rise of cyber threats.
“After carefully considering and thoroughly exploring various options, we’ve partnered with a well-suited investor who brings the resources and expertise required to propel our growth,” Serbus said. “This is an important milestone.”
Serbus now becomes part of an evolving group in Aliter’s portfolio that currently includes ITM Communications, a leading UK provider of critical network and ICT infrastructure services, and Bates IT, the specialist healthcare ICT provider. The combined group portfolio, Aliter said, delivers a comprehensive range of managed critical network and ICT infrastructure capabilities, including network management, on-site and off-site technical services, IoT, and digital infrastructure services.
This move is part of Aliter’s broader buy-and-build strategy to scale up a nationwide critical network and ICT infrastructure services leader, with Serbus forming a dedicated defence practice.
Group CEO Simon Fieldhouse said: “The acquisition of Serbus brings tremendous value to the group, broadening our capability to support Critical National Infrastructure. This move strengthens our service portfolio, allowing us to offer secure communications products that complement our existing managed services, benefiting defence and other CNI sectors like emergency services, utilities, and data centres.”
Serbus co-founders Seb Wiles and Russ Ticehurst will stay on as directors, and work closely with Fieldhouse.
“For our customers, it’s business as usual. Your key contacts remain the same, and we are fully committed to continuing our high standards of service and support,” Serbus said. “We are thrilled to begin this new chapter with our clients, partners and team members, ensuring our services continue to evolve and meet the demands of today’s Critical National Infrastructure landscape.”
