Aberdeen catering firm Entier, set up by former chef Peter Firm, has been bought by US food giant Aramark.
The company was launched in 2008 by Firm who began working in kitchens as a 15-year-old and was a chef for 29 years. He also ran the Scotland and north-east business of UK catering giant Compass. He formed Entier as he saw a “gap in the market for a catering business with a laser focus on quality”.
Since launching Entier it has transformed into a company with a £77 million turnover, a pre-tax profit of £2 million around 700 employees and a presence in Australia, Canada, Singapore, Trinidad and Tobago, Saudi Arabia and the US.
The group has three main divisions: RSG which delivers catering services to companies offshore such as oil and gas firms, FRESH which provides food and drink for businesses, organisations and nurseries and Wild Thyme which caters for weddings, corporate events and venues such as Blair Castle. It has also catered for major events such as golf’s The Ryder Cup.
Aramark, which had a turnover of £14 billion in 2024, sealed the deal for an undisclosed sum. It serves the world’s leading educational institutions, Fortune 500 companies, world champion sports teams, prominent healthcare providers, iconic destinations and cultural attractions in 16 countries around the world with food and facilities management.
It was first founded in the 1930s starting life as a vending machine company. Aramark launched its offshore division in 1978 and began working in the North Sea in 2013 when it won a five-year deal worth £33 million to cater offshore facilities for French firm Total, now called TotalEnergies.
Aramark recorded a turnover of £14 billion for 2024, an increase of 8 per cent from the previous year. In the first quarter of 2025 it recorded a revenue of £3.6 billion up 3 per cent on the same period in 2024 helped by demand from US colleges.
