A lack of funding is causing small businesses in the UK to lose out on potential sales worth £30 billion a year, with the building and construction industry being the worst hit.
According to research by finance provider GE Capital, almost 20 per cent of small and medium-sized companies believe they have missed out on recent business opportunities as a direct result of being unable to secure funding.
Nearly half of the 500 businesses questioned also believed that access to funding would become even tougher in 2011, due to recent changes in the credit market.
