Construction company WJ Baker has entered administration with PwC appointed as the administrators.
The business, commonly known as Baker Construction, has been trading from its Bury St Edmonds base for more than 50 years but a lack of work and strong competition for contracts has prevented it from continuing. Its administrators stated that the firm has “suffered significant losses in the recent past”.
Robert Baker, the business owner, stated on the company website: “My grandfather built his first property in the early 1950s, at the time I am sure he never dreamed he was laying the foundations of a family business that would grow to become one of the leading construction groups in the region.
“The modern world is a very different place to that in which my grandfather founded the business, but at Baker Construction, one thing remains the same – our total commitment to our partners and customers. It is the cornerstone of our success and the key to our future.”
Baker's main focus was affordable housing development, but it also worked on commercial property and listed buildings. At its peak in 2010 it enjoyed a turnover of £10 million and employed 70 staff.
This business opportunity presents a solid foundation for expansion within the aviation sector, backed by a strong management team and a robust client base spanning over two decades.
