The manager of Wincanton Garden Centre says her company has fallen into the administration as a result of the closure of a nearby access road.
The business is being sold by administrator RSM Tenon Recovery for £425,000. Don Earnshaw, from owner Alexander Mackie, explained that finding a buyer shouldn’t be too difficult: "We've had a tremendous amount of interest."
Debbie Gordon, who runs the garden centre says that the closure of the B3081 has had a detrimental effect on her business, and she has also been forced to put the garden centre’s Pet Barn business up for sale.
She commented, "I can't believe one little thing can ruin it for everybody else and that highways at the council can get away with it. We had a petition with signatures from customers who complained about the difficulty finding us.”
The administrators claim they are well experienced in dealing with “financially distressed garden centres.” RSM Tenon Recovery administrator Tim Dolder added, "the plan is to maintain the garden centre as a going concern as long as it is commercially viable to do so. Specialist agents have been instructed to market the business. Additionally, the existing staff have been retained, including the owners."
