The managing director of a Devon waste management company has announced that the company is to be placed into administration.
Anthony Small told the staff of Antrac Ltd yesterday that the company - which trades as Cox Waste Management - was to be placed into administration. He said that the Newton Abbot-based company had suffered tremendously in the wake of the collapses of major construction companies during the recession.
Mr Small said that he had tried everything possible to prevent the administration, but was ultimately unable to avoid it.
"I have a notice of intention to appoint an administrator but I have not done it yet. I will be, and I expect that will happen next week," he said.
"When a larger firm like Rok was placed in administration last year it indirectly affected Antrac because we were dealing with customers of theirs who were slower to pay or wanted to be paid quicker - it created a nervousness out there."
The skip hire side of the business has already been bought out by Exeter-based Devon Contract Waste, who said they had managed to retain seven jobs and maintain service to the existing client base without interruption.
