The Warehouse Theatre in Croydon has been placed in administration as it has struggled to cope with government cuts to arts funding.
Arts Council England refused the 35-year-old theatre funding last year and Croydon Council has also recently decided to end its subsidy, leaving the venue with an uncertain future.
Jeremy Frost and Patrick Wadsted of Frost Business Recovery have been appointed as administrators. They stated that the current production of Call Mr Robeson will be able to continue until 20 May so the theatre and bar will remain open until at least this date but “the longer term future of the Warehouse is still uncertain at this time”.
Mr Frost added: “We have already been approached by a number of parties interested in purchasing the theatre and/or its assets, but if any other parties are in the wings and might be interested, they should contact me as soon as possible, as time is obviously of the essence.”
The Warehouse, which has helped to launch the careers of such artists as Eddie Izzard and Cate Blanchett, has made a public plea for finances or a saviour to rescue it from administration.
A statement on the site said that if such a saviour cannot be found then “London and the world of live innovative theatre will sadly lose an important cultural asset which has an established reputation and can never be replaced”.
Operating across North Yorkshire, the company has two divisions, one that provides IT infrastructure and one offering renewable energy solutions, including solar PV systems and electric vehicle charging points.
The group specialises in supplying and installing UPVC windows, doors and conservatories in a wide array of styles. Bespoke bathroom panelling and high-quality guttering products are also provided by the two companies.
The company is a well-regarded specialist provider of hygienic wall, floor, and ceiling cladding systems. To complement its core supply of PVC cladding, the business offers hot welded joints to prevent the build-up of bacteria and can supply stainles...
