KPMG administrators have been called into Pershore-based vegetable supplier Simms & Woods.
The firm has been forced to cut staff numbers by 150 after failing to restructure the business, which resulted in the business falling into the hands of the administrators who have been forced to close the business.
KPMG director Will Wright commented, “We are working hard to find a buyer for the residual assets of the business and a small number of staff will remain on site over the coming days to assist with the closure.”
The firm’s factory site has already been bought by Sandfield Farm, whose managing director Derek Wilkinson said, “We are pleased to have been able to secure this high quality packhouse, which will enable us to develop and expand our business.”
He added that experienced employees of Simms & Woods should apply for jobs with Sandfield.
Wilkinson continued to explain that the facility will help it to compete internationally, but added, “Over the past few weeks Simms & Woods’ supermarket customers have moved their business to other produce companies, so it is likely that the site will not be in production immediately until we have assessed the opportunities.”
