A vineyard that supplied the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh with wine to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee earlier this year has fallen into administration after poor weather damaged the latest harvest.
The owners of Wickham Vineyard in Hampshire said that the poor 2012 harvest, combined with a lack of investment, has forced them to administration.
The vineyard collapsed following the failure of the Wine Shak retail chain in November 2012. A spokesperson for the vineyard’s owners said, "We were involved in the Wine Shak shops, and those were put into liquidation three weeks ago. The shops took the vineyard down as well.
"It's been difficult trading for at least the past 12 months and they have been trying to secure investment which hasn't been forthcoming."
The vineyard was planted in 1984 and usually produces around 80,000 bottles of wine for supermarkets, restaurants and hotels each year. However, the rainy weather over summer 2012 meant stocks were considerably depleted this year.
The firm employs 24 people and the spokesperson said they are hoping to be able to offer statutory redundancy to staff, but that this “will be decided at the creditors' meeting.”
Operating across North Yorkshire, the company has two divisions, one that provides IT infrastructure and one offering renewable energy solutions, including solar PV systems and electric vehicle charging points.
The group specialises in supplying and installing UPVC windows, doors and conservatories in a wide array of styles. Bespoke bathroom panelling and high-quality guttering products are also provided by the two companies.
The company is a well-regarded specialist provider of hygienic wall, floor, and ceiling cladding systems. To complement its core supply of PVC cladding, the business offers hot welded joints to prevent the build-up of bacteria and can supply stainles...
