The Glasshouse Hotel, once voted as one of the top 50 hotels in the world, has been put up for sale after its parent company The Eton Collection Group entered administration.
The Edinburgh-based 69-bedroom hotel, previously visited by the likes of Kylie Minogue, Annie Lennox and Meryl Streep, was opened in 2003, and has the only rooftop terrace in Edinburgh.
Jane Moriaty and Allan Graham of KPMG have been appointed to manage the administration process for the group, which also owns the Scotsman Hotel and Northbridge restaurant.
Moriaty said: "We are continuing to trade the business while we assess the position of the hotels. Historically, however, the hotels have traded successfully and are well regarded at the luxury end of the market, so we are hopeful of securing a successful resolution to this situation."
Prolonged local tram works, which are to link Edinburgh Airport and Newshaven, have rendered the parking bay in front of the upmarket hotel unusable. The work has taken much longer than originally anticipated, and may be up to two years late, due to a dispute with contractors.
Guests have been told they would need to be dropped off 40 yards away from the hotel or pay to park in a nearby carpark.
Graham Bell of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce is of the opinion that the relatively young hotel's lack of an established loyal customer base is also to blame for the group's demise.
The successful purchaser will acquire a fast growing, leading independent recruitment agency, providing temporary, contract, an permanent positions and solutions across various sectors nationwide.
