Tue, 08 Nov 2011 | ADMINISTRATION
The first sushi restaurant in the UK to use a conveyor belt service, Moshi Moshi, has entered administration.
Administrators at Kingston Smith & Partners have been drafted in to handle matters for Bickland Limited, trading as Moshi Moshi and Soseki. Administrator Ian Defty is to continue trading the business and will endeavour to retain 27 staff at the restaurant chain.
Its demise has been attributed to “internal difficulties”. A statement from the administrators reads, “The failure of the company is attributed predominately to internal difficulties, which have effectively divided the company.”
Bickland had recently taken steps to expand the business with new restaurants in Brighton and Mayfair and a takeaway outlet in Waitrose Canary Wharf. The restaurant in London’s Liverpool Street is the only one affected by the administration.
Mr Defty commented, “It is sad that popular businesses and restaurants are failing regularly in today’s economic climate. If the insolvency industry can try to soften the blow to both creditors and employees, then we will be doing a good job in difficult circumstances.”
Moshi Moshi was founded by Caroline Bennett in 1994. She has won the Green Apple Award for her efforts to source sustainable fish for use in her restaurants.
