Just a year after coffee chain Coffee Republic was bought out of administration by Arab Investments, it has signed a deal to sell to sell its coffee in Shell petrol stations across the country.
The chain, which specialises in Italian roasted coffee, have had machines in some Shell garages since April of this year, to research whether they are a viable long-term prospect.
Sales have risen by 35 per cent since April in the garages that supply the coffee and the company has now signed on the dotted line, as part of a wider expansion programme.
Coffee Republic, which roasts its beans in Milan before importing them, currently has 50 stores and 80 concessions. This new Shell deal will see automated barista machines go into as many as 450 forecourts over the next 12 months.
Tariq Affara, chief executive, said the idea was to get as many people as possible tasting the group’s coffee. “Coffee Republic missed a trick in the past by not shouting about how great its coffee was,” he said. “We’re quite snobbish about our coffee.”
Mr Affara added that the taste was very close to the product from a normal Coffee Republic outlet.
