Scottish bedding maker Slumberdown Enterprises Ltd has been taken into administration, with Ernest & Young hired to find a new owner.
Around 100 staff face being made redundant across the plants, while two North Ireland plants may also be closed.
Tony Trench at the Unite union commented on the situation, “This is really disappointing news, especially with the staff bending over backwards to help the firm. But they have been betrayed by the management who have failed to communicate with us despite constant requests.”
“It appears the group as a whole is in trouble.”
Slumberdown manufactures quilts, pillows and sleeping bags at its Hawick plant. Its last recorded revenues for the year to 31 march 2008 totaled £24 million, with a pre-tax profit of £113k.
Meanwhile, textiles manufacturer, Peter Scott & Co, which entered administration in May, was recently purchased by duffle coat maker Gloverall Plc as a going concern.
Around 120 of the company’s 140 employees lost their jobs when it was hit by the recession. The remaining staff will transfer over to the new owner.
Long established manufacturer trading from its own substantial freehold premises. The company has a global customer base and is able to facilitate substantial expansion.
