Oban Marina, the picturesque harbour on the west coast of Scotland, is up for sale after its owner failed to recover from trading difficulties.
Both Oban Marina Ltd and its parent firm Shawhead Developments have been placed in the hands of administrators from BDO.
Though run separately, the firms had cross-guarantees in place for bank lending. The tie has resulted in the administration proceedings of both businesses.
Chartered surveyors Graham and Sibbald are handling the sale of Oban Marina as a going concern. The marina, situated on the Isle of Kerrera, is staffed by seven people and has 115 floating pontoon berths.
Facilities at the marina include four shower rooms, a laundry room, broadband access and winter storage. The nearby Waypoint Bar & Grill restaurant serves local fish to customers and is open between 1 June and 30 September.
James Stephen from BDO said: “We are hopeful of securing a sale and the company will continue to trade whilst this is explored.”
Bruce Murdoch of Graham and Sibbald commented: “The business benefits from a high level of occupancy and year-round revenue.”
He continued to say: “We are already encouraged by the level of initial interest being expressed which reflects the real potential of Oban Marina to continue to grow and serve the yachting community on the west coast of Scotland.”
