Recruitment and training business, RTC Group, has put its rail training arm, Catalis Limited, into administration due to financial problems and a lack of confidence over future industry spending.
It is thought that up to 40 employees have lost their jobs at the Derby-based business, which provided courses in environment, engineering, technology and health and safety.
It is not yet known who the administrators are, but a worker revealed that a small number of staff have been kept on while a buyer is sought.
RTC said in a statement: "The group explored a range of options in respect of the Catalis business prior to taking this action. All other group companies continue to trade as normal."
Based at the former London Midland and Scottish College of Rail Technology, Catalis was renamed Catalis Rail Training during a revamp in 1998, and then again in 2009, as Catalis Ltd.
The training provider operated in the construction, manufacturing, electrical, energy, and the environmental sectors, as well as H.M. Forces and the public sector since 1938, according to its website.
The last recorded revenue for the year to 31 December 2008 was £3.77m, down from £4.064m the previous year.
