A perfume company based in Lincolnshire has entered administration, following increased competition in its sector.
Eros Laboratories in Metheringham, Lincoln, which specialises in alcohol-based body sprays, lotions and creams, was one of the largest employers in the area.
Marion Brighton, leader of North Kesteven District Council, said, "Naturally, we are concerned if one of the district's larger employers is forced into administration.
"In the immediate term, the authority is keen to work with the company and the administrator to see how it can help mitigate the effects of the closure," she added.
The firm has had a tumultuous past – its plans to expand onto greenfield land in Potterhanworth were rejected outright following much opposition from local residents. Such was the strength of feeling that the locals formed the group ISORE, meaning 'In Support of Rejecting Eros.'
Four years later, in 2008, a manager was given a 10-month jail sentence for stealing stock and selling it on eBay.
Then, in December 2009, Eros Laboratories was forced to restructure its management following the retirement of its managing director.
Parent company Rochmills Group attributed the administration to the increasing competition faced by Eros from within the UK and abroad.
