Norian Beds, the Trowbridge-based bespoke bed manufacturer, has called in administrators, blaming the collapse on the failing of DIY giant Focus, earlier this year.
Norian was owed some £320,000 by Focus before the bigger company collapsed, and the bed maker has been unable to secure more investment to keep it going. The company's 80 factory staff were sent home from work earlier this week.
The business's owner, Peter Gair, said they had been furiously working for months to try to secure its future, but had been unable to find the funding.
"Since [April] we have been searching for fresh investments and banking facilities but it is a difficult climate out there," Gair explained. "We were paying interest and charges on a loan from Barclays. I was hoping, and quite confident, that we could find a re-financing solution, but it wasn't to be."
A spokesman for Barclays said that the management had come to their own conclusion that the company was no longer viable and "voluntarily chose to lodge notice to appoint administrators."
The family-run firm has been operating for 27 years from sites in Wiltshire and Somerset. It has been headquartered at the former Avon Rubber site in Trowbridge since 2004.
