Abacus Care Home Care & Nursing Services (Ormskirk) Ltd has entered administration with more than 150 jobs being lost as a result.
The Lancashire-based care provider has appointed Chris White and Gareth Rusling of The P&A Partnership as joint administrators, Insider Media reported. Its sister company, Abacus Care, which offers franchises providing care services across the UK, has also entered administration.
The company called in the administrators after increasing competition and legislation had led it into financial trouble. Both businesses have been closed with a total of 152 staff being made redundant immediately.
The sister companies supplied qualified nurses and health care assistants to work in care homes, hospitals, and secure units. They also provided palliative care and specialist care as well as personal and domestic care to clients within their own homes
Chris White said: "Abacus Care Home Care and Nursing Services (Ormskirk) Ltd has provided a valuable service across the North West, and across the UK, for a number of years but has fallen victim to growing health care legislation alongside rising competition.
"These factors have made the business unviable, forcing the owners to make the difficult decision to shut down the company."
