Wilson’s, the company famous for manufacturing the Kendal Mint Cake since 1913, has entered administration following ‘significant cash flow difficulties’, according to Food Manufacture.
The distressed company has made a total of 121 employees redundant over a nine month period. The remaining 35 staff were made redundant in February 2016 around the time of the financial difficulties.
The food manufacturer, based in Holme, near Kendal, Cumbria, was only brought out of pre-pack administration by Creative Confectionery in May last year.
However, following further trouble at Wilson’s, Jeremy Woodside and Christopher Ratten of RSM Restructuring Advisory were appointed as joint administrators on 12 February this year, with the distressed business ceasing to trade altogether two weeks before that.
Mr Woodside, a partner at RSM Restructuring Advisory, said: “Unfortunately due to significant cash flow difficulties the company has been placed in administration.
“Currently the administrators are marketing the company’s assets.”
Wilson’s was founded by James Wilson in 1913 at a factory in the Stricklandgate area of Kendal. During peak production at it premises in Holme, the company ran five production lines and made 2 million chocolates a week.
