Hundreds of jobs are at risk after the operators of four care homes in Northern Ireland have gone into administration.
Care Circle Ltd and Slemish Homes, which operates three homes in Co Antrim and manages a fourth in Cookstown, has appointed Peter Allen as an administrator from Deloitte.
The companies, part of the larger Care Circle Group company, employs 310 permanent staff in its four homes and can cater for 230 people.
In total, the Care Circle Group operates 12 care facilities across Northern Ireland and employs more than 800 people, making it the largest independently owned care home operator.
One of the care homes - the Kingsway home in Dunmurry - was in the papers last year after it was accused of neglecting its residents. However, inspections by the Regulation and Quality Improvement found the home had improved its practices.
In a statement, Mr Allen said that the businesses would continue to trade despite being in administration, to enable the same standard of care is provided to current residents, and that no job losses were currently planned.
“All necessary steps have been taken to ensure the existing level of care remains in place at the homes.
"We are operating closely with the regulator and the trusts, and we will be meeting residents and their families to explain the purpose of the administration and to provide comfort that there will be no material difference in how the homes operate,” he said.
The latest publicly available accounts dating back to 2014 showed that Care Circle Ltd made a profit of £1.2 million, which followed losses of more than £70,000 the previous year.
