The Kincora Hall hotel in Killaloe, Ireland – which provided space for the region’s court sittings – has entered administration.
The hotel leaves East Clare without its court venue and has left local business leaders scrambling to see if the hotel can be kept in business. The hotel has been struggling in the bottomed-out Irish tourism industry, but effort are being made by administrators to sell it on.
The hotel has been holding the Killaloe and wider east Clare district magistrates court proceedings for the last eleven months, after they had been transferred from the Lakeside Hotel in Ballina.
The mayor of Clare, Pat Hayes, said that the news had been disappointing for the community as the Kincora played a very significant role in the town.
“It is disappointing, first of all, for the people who have lost their jobs that the hotel has gone into receivership and a loss to tourism in Killaloe,” he said. “I would not like to see any more centralising of services by the Killaloe sittings staying in Ennis. It is important that such services are retained in the community.”
Members of the legal profession have been informed that sittings will now take place in the town of Ennis, which is 31 miles away.
