For the second time in seven years, Dundee Football Club has called in the administrators due to unpaid PAYE and national insurance bills totalling £365,000.
The First Division club now faces punishment from the Scottish Football League, (SFL) which could include points deductions and relegation to a lower division.
The club's manager Gordon Chisholm, his assistant, Billy Dodds, and several first-team players could also be made redundant.
Insolvency practitioner Bryan Jackson, of Glasgow-based Pannell Kerr Forster (PKF), has been appointed as administrator. Mr Jackson successfully oversaw the administration of Motherwell FC in 2002.
A statement released by PKF said, "Dundee FC has approached PKF to act as administrator. The directors of Dundee FC have decided that their only option is to place the club into administration.
"The directors have taken this decision with considerable regret but believe that they have no other choice in the current circumstances. Until the administration is effective, all staff will remain in-post and the club will continue to operate normally," added the statement.
One piece of positive news for the struggling club is that Aberdeen businessman and Dundee director Calum Melville has pledged £200,000 to pay off part of the outstanding tax bill.
