Dublin-based Architecture firm HKR have placed their Manchester branch into administration.
Following plans by its directors to launch a new business, the Manchester office has been put into administration as part of a mass restructure by its parent firm.
The Manchester office was opened in May 2006 by the city council’s high-profile chief executive Howard Bernstein. At the time office director Philip Doyle said, “Manchester is now a true international city and its continued expansion fits well with HKR’s international aspirations.”
Director Phil Doyle and the management team of Matthews, Paul Norbury, Carly Grice and Adam Thornton, will now start a new firm called 5Plus.
The Manchester office previously employed 15 people. Doyle said that 5Plus’s new offices at Grange House on John Dalton Street had room for 30 people.
Chief executive Jerry Ryan said, “Our international project wins reflect our focus on increased geographic diversity.
“We will serve our UK and international client base from our expanded London office,” he added.
The firm will continue to work on a project they started before the administration, creating a Travelodge on the former site of the Boddingtons brewery in the Strangeways area of the city.
