A declining turnover caused by the recession-hit jobs market has tipped Clerkenwell-based architecture and design recruitment agency Adrem into administration.
Business recovery and insolvency specialists Harrisons was appointed administrator for the 25-year-old company at the beginning of the month.
News of the collapse coincides with information from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) highlighting that the economic downturn has claimed at least 15 per cent of jobs in the industry.
In December, 1,455 architects - out of a total of around 26,400 who are active in the profession - were claiming jobseekers allowance, though the statistic does not account for unemployed individuals not claiming benefits.
The RIBA’s Future Trends survey finds individuals in the profession growing less optimistic about their prospects, with just 31 per cent of practices anticipating an increase in their workload.
Only five per cent expect a rise in staff levels, in contrast to ten per cent who anticipated the same in November, while practices based in the north of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland are identified as less confident than the rest of the UK.
Adrem is believed to be in talks with a potential business buyer.
