Freestyle scooter maker and seller Doggscooters has been scooped up out of administration by an unrelated retailer called Greenover.
Devon-based Doggscooters entered administration on Friday 14 February 2014, with the appointment of David Kirk of insolvency firm Kirks, Insider Media has reported.
Greenover, based in Torquay close to Doggscooters in Paignton, snapped up the distressed business for just £12,000, and acquired the brand name, though there was not much left in regards to stock or assets.
The business was set up in May 2009 by 16-year-old Jon Carter and his 19-year-old brother Darren, according to the company website, by selling freestyle scooters and accessories on the internet. Jon Carter (aka JonDogg) had been getting frustrated with the lack of suitable products available in Britain.
Doggscooters' scooters are designed for riders who perform tricks in skate parks and urban environments.
Mr Kirk told Insider Media: “The two directors started the business from home four years ago and it had built up to almost £1m annual sales.
“Unfortunately they did not put aside enough money to pay the VAT and import taxes due on scooters and had run up tax debts.”
The new owner has retained two of the original five people in employment before the administration process began.
