Thu, 01 Mar 2012 | ADMINISTRATION
The Manchester-based game developer behind the Xbox Live Arcade game ‘Hydrophobia’, Dark Energy Digital, is being placed into administration.
It is understood that the administration process will commence within the next two weeks, and that the employees have been informed of the decision.
The bosses at the firm have registered a new company with the name of Dark Energy Publishing, sparking rumours that it will acquire the assets of Dark Energy Digital when it enters administration.
The game ‘Hydrophobia’ had unique water effects, but was a weak seller and did not fare well with critics. A subsequent version ‘Hydrophobia Pure’ was released to rectify related issues, and a later version ‘Hydrophobia Prophecy’ featured new levels.
It is thought that the graphics technology behind the ‘HydroEngine’ water effect in ‘Hydrophobia’ could be sold off by the administrators. The ‘HydroEngine’ took years of intensive development, according to the website, and features water that mimics the movement of real life water.
Other assets that could be sold by the administrators are the World Championship Snooker IP and an almost completed Pool game.
Dark Energy Digital was previously known as Blade Interactive, before it folded in 2008.
