A County Down-based building firm has fallen into administration due to the impact of the economic downturn on Northern Ireland's construction and development sector.
Sky Developments (NI) which specialises in energy efficient homes and was well-known for creating Northern Ireland's first carbon neutral home, fell into financial difficulties following the credit crunch.
The carbon neutral home, which was named the 'Green House,' was developed at the Esplanade in Holywood - where the company is based - and was praised as an innovative sustainable development. Sky Developments then went on to work on a series of eco property developments including a social housing project in Newtownards.
Andrew Muir, Alliance Party Councillor on North Down Borough Council, Holywood area said, “It is particularly regrettable that this Holywood-based firm has encountered financial difficulties when Northern Ireland needs companies such as Sky Developments to tackle climate change.
“Their 'Green House' in Kinnegar, Holywood is extremely impressive and a role model property in terms of energy efficiency. I hope the administrators will be able to save the company and safeguard the maximum amount of jobs possible,” he added.
Financial consultants BDO were appointed as administrators last week.
