Comet, the electrical retail outlet that has recently fallen into administration, has announced a further 735 redundancies.
The job losses will be made up of head office workers, central functions and positions across its home delivery network.
Comet had employed over 6,600 individuals but administrators from Deloitte have already cut 330 jobs since the firm entered administration, and more could well be on the way.
However, connections are being established with other companies, including Comet's rival Dixons, to offer redundant employees first choice at some of the extra Christmas jobs that will become available soon.
News that Comet's administrators have been forced to make further cuts to the company's workforce comes as Premier Foods has stated that it is cutting 900 jobs in its bread division and closing two of its bakeries.
The company has been selling off a number of different divisions in a bid to cut down its debts, but it appears that further action has had to be taken in order to reduce its outgoings.
Michael Clarke, chief executive of Premier, commented on the job cuts, stating that they were critical for securing the bread division's future: "By simplifying our cost base, we can increase focus on improving efficiency, quality and service levels to help grow our core Hovis business.
"We recognise the impact these actions will have for our employees at the sites affected. Decisions will not be taken lightly but they are necessary if we are to build a strong and successful future for the bread division and those who remain with our business."
