The last dedicated colour book publisher in the UK has entered administration after suffering from “serious manufacturing problems”, Print Week reported.
Berforts Information Press (BIP) is located on two sites, the first in Stevenage, Hertfordshire and the second in Eynsham, Oxfordshire. The two sites are continuing to complete work in progress but are unlikely to take on new work at this stage.
Richard Rones from ThorntonRones was appointed as administrator on 7 September at the request of the company's directors.
Berforts' chief executive Gerald White spoke to the publication about the manufacturing issues that lead to the company's problems: “We had some serious litho manufacturing problems at the [BIP] site, in relation to the failure of certain plant, which we had been battling with for the past five or six months, and it got to the stage where we couldn’t go on as the site couldn’t deliver on time.
“So I had to make the difficult decision to call it a day as it was clear that we weren’t going to get these problems fixed in reasonable time.”
The administrators are seeking a buyer for the business or its assets, but there is little hope of getting things up and running again and the main hope is that the team can keep current work in progress going in order to pay off the company's creditors, before the business is wound down and buyers found for its valuable machinery and assets.
