Cardiff-headquartered refrigeration and airconditioning business MacWhirter Ltd has entered administration.
The firm, which designs, installs and services refrigeration and airconditioning units, celebrated its 130-year anniversary back in 2012. However, the loss of key contracts saw business decline sharply and eventually administrators were called in on 3 July, with 52 employees made redundant and just three kept on to help wind down the business while a sale of the company is sought.
Richard Hawes and Matthew Cowlishaw of Deloitte have been appointed as joint administrators, Insider Media reported.
MacWhirter has its headquarters in the Welsh capital but also has operations in London, Horsham and Bristol. Some of the big contracts it has worked on in the past includes the Radisson Hotel in Guildford, Honda's UK logistics centre, and a maintenance contract that spanned over different 100 Marks & Spencer stores.
Richard Hawes, joint administrator and partner in Deloitte's restructuring services practice, commented: "The company has recently experienced losses from several contracts due to poor margins being achieved.
"As a result of which, the company was unable to continue to trade and the directors took the decision to place the company into administration on 3 July 2015."
