Birmingham gay club The Nightingale has been taken into administration and the search for a new owner has commenced.
Insolvency practitioners Zolfo Cooper are striving to find a new owner as quickly as possible for the club, which is continuing to trade.
The oldest gay club in Birmingham has a 40-year history and can count Sir Ian McKellen, Alan Carr and Graham Norton amongst its famous past visitors.
Last week the club hosted performances by former X Factor contenders Johnny Robinson and boy band The Risk.
Administrator Ryan Grant commented, “This is a well established business with a loyal customer base and we are confident of finding a purchaser quickly.”
It is thought that some separate consortiums are putting together bids for the assets and lease of the venue. It is hoped that the administration process will finish in less than two months.
The Nightingale’s doors first opened in 1969 on Camp Hill, before being moved to Kent Street in 1994. It is a members-only cooperative.
The Nightingale Club Limited’s subsidiary, Mardi Gras Birmingham Limited, runs the Angel Bar, and has not been affected by its parent company’s move into administration.
