Begbies Traynor is seeking a buyer for Humberside Optical Services Ltd, which provides optical glazing and frame repair services to independent opticians. The optical services business has recently been placed into administration.
A fall in sales as the public cut down on eyewear purchases in the recession hit the Barton-upon-Humber optical lens manufacturer, leading to its present situation.
Joint administrator Andrew McKenzie announced that Humberside Optical Services is still trading while being marketed for a whole or part sale. Half of the 40 employees have been made redundant.
“The firm has a decent order book, some high-quality plant and machinery and a skilled and loyal workforce, and we are optimistic that a buyer will be found to ensure its long-term survival and protect the remaining jobs.”
Established in 1987, the business offers its broad ranging services to independent opticians. On its website it boasts of its ability to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in eyewear technology.
Humberside Optical Services has not recorded turnover figures for the past three years.
