The assets of kitchen maker FD Kitchens are for sale following the appointment of Begbies Traynor as the administrators to the troubled business.
The administrators were brought in to the Greater Manchester family firm on 23 August, which ceased to trade on Friday 2 September.
Joint administrator, Jason Greenhalgh, said, “The firm was over geared for the market which had suffered from a downturn with house builders cutting right back and the social housing market becoming more competitive.”
“It tried to downsize and look at different options, but the work just wasn’t there,” he added.
FD Kitchens operated from sites in Prestwich, Bury and Delph, Saddleworth, and manufactured kitchens for house builders and social housing providers. The assets now being sold by the administrators include manufacturing equipment and the Delph property, which had been the firm’s headquarters.
The company had made most of its 100-strong workforce redundant at its Prestwich site, and sold the premises earlier on in August, but still was forced to enter administration. The remaining ten staff also lost their jobs when the firm’s operations closed.
Chairman Frank Durr established the business over 30 years ago, and ran the business with his sons Mark, Chris and Anthony who were directors.
