Wrexham-based construction contractor firm Barnhill Construction Limited has been closed down, with administrators brought in to sell off its assets.
The stricken business, which offered civil engineering, industrial and commercial work as well as smaller building maintenance services to its customers, was shut down before the administrators arrived at the scene.
Barnhill had been hit by the stagnant construction sector, Matt Dunham from Grant Thornton said.
“The business had ceased trading by the time we were appointed and unfortunately all 35 employees had been made redundant,” he added.
“Our role over the next few weeks will be to realise the company’s assets to help pay off its debts. We’re still going through the figures.”
Its contracts were up to £5 million in value and mainly based in Wales and the North West. One of its bigger projects was the build of a £3.2 million power plant at UPM paper mill in Deeside. Its customers included the household names Cadbury, Kellogg’s, Redrow Homes and Hanson Cement and John Sisk.
Established in 1991, Barnhill Construction was based at Five Crosses Industrial estate in Minera. It also had a steel fabrication arm.
Its last recorded accounts show a turnover of £5.97 million with profits of £384,321.
