Tameside glass buildings manufacturer, Apropos Tectonic, has succumbed to the difficult construction economy and entered administration.
The company, which specialises in making aluminium and glass-based offices and conservatories, is now under the control of administrators David Whitehouse and Steven Muncaster of Duff & Phelps. The administrators made 17 of the company's staff redundant on their appointment, but retained 63 to keep the business in operation while a search for a buyer is carried out.
Mr Whitehouse said the directors made the decision to enter administration after having suffered a loss-making few months recently. They had also experienced significant pressure after an associated company in which they had invested, Atelier Modular, collapsed in December.
"Despite some cost-cutting exercises implemented by the management, trading continued to suffer in light of the ongoing economic decline and the resulting impact this has had on the disposable incomes of the company’s customer base," he said. "As a result, the company has been struggling to fulfil existing orders and was unable to pay its debts as they fall due."
Apropos also manufactures doors, canopies and roof lights, and operates from sites in Ashton-under-Lyne and Dukinfield.
Mr Whitehouse said there had already been significant interest in the company from a number of buyers and they were optimistic of securing a sale.
