Seward (Wessex) Ltd, the Dorset motor dealer chain that has a key sponsorship deal with AFC Bournemouth, has appointed administrators.
Administrators from Smith and Williamson have taken charge of the company, which deals and services Vauxhall, Chevrolet, Saab and Hyundai vehicles from its branches in Branksome, Christchurch and Blandford, according to the Bournemouth Echo newspaper.
A spokesman for the administrators said that the company would continue to trade as normal for the time being, while a search for a buyer is carried out and the future of the business is determined.
“Seward (Wessex) will […] continue to sell both new Vauxhall and Chevrolet cars and parts, to buy and sell used cars and perform workshop services,” the spokesman said. “As with sales of vehicles by any other Vauxhall or Chevrolet dealer, the manufacturer will honour valid manufacturer warranties in the usual way.”
Seward (Wessex) Ltd’s parent company, the Seward Motor Group, has a six-figure, three-year sponsorship deal with AFC Bournemouth, which was signed in May 2011. The club’s chairman, Eddie Mitchell, said that Seward and its chairman, John Saunders, have been loyal sponsors of the club, and they would continue to stand by the company during this period.
“John’s been great to the club and if he sorts himself out he will still be a sponsor and if he can’t, he can’t,” Mitchell said. “At this time, without knowing the facts, we’re 100 per cent behind him.”
