Thomson Litho, the printing business that was set up by the late footballer, Matt Thomson, has been put into administration by its Czech owners.
The East Kilbride-based business has been fully under the ownership of GZ Digital Media, which had been the former Motherwell FC captain's partner owner until it took it over completely last year. It is understood that the company is to wind down the Scottish operations and transfer them to Eastern Europe.
Blair Nimmo and Tony Friar from KPMG Scotland have been appointed as administrators and they are said to be focusing on generating interest in the company's East Kilbride facility - where 60 jobs were lost last month - which includes the property and printing equipment.
Mr Nimmo said that the company had been struggling with the costs of carrying out the business in Scotland for a significant period.
"With the advent of digital media, demand for the printed material Thomson Litho produced has fallen over recent years and the company became unviable, despite its restructuring," Mr Nimmo explained.
Just nine employees were left working at the company when the administrators were appointed, after operations had already been ceased and transferred to another company within the wider UK group.
