Administrators have been drafted into manage a pharmaceuticals plant in Dumfries and Galloway, which has changed ownership numerous times in the last few years.
A note on the company website says that Arvindar Singh-Sall and Jeremy Willmont are authorised to act as the insolvency practitioners by the Institute of Chartered Accountants for Bakhu Pharma Limited, a wholesale drugs supplier.
About 30 staff have lost their jobs so far at the Bakhu Pharma-owned site at Newbie near Annan.
Bakhu Pharma had owned the site for two years after making a “last minute rescue” after its former owners Phoenix Chemicals entered administration in January 2011.
Originally built on Glaxo’s instructions in 1980, the site has seemed set for insolvency. Previous owner Indian-owned Shasun Pharma had announced plans to close the site in October 2008, due to falling demand for its main product. Wirral-based Phoenix Chemicals stepped in to buy the site a year later with a £400,000 grant from the Scottish government, and reopened it in 2010.
Founded in March 2011 two months after Phoenix entered administration, Bakhu Pharma is headed by Colin Leece, who had previously been the chief executive for Phoenix Chemicals, alongside Dr Lee Proctor who was a director at the same firm.
