A £250,000 unpaid tax bill could tip Dundee Football Club into administration, it has been revealed.
HM Revenues & Customs are demanding immediate payment and, a senior Dens Park source added, “They are being completely inflexible, with no room for negotiation at all.”
The unwelcome news comes as Dundee’s main investor Calum Melville recently considered resigning from the club due to his own business problems.
Melville said: “I feel we are being treated differently from other clubs and I would have thought HMRC has a duty to treat everyone in the same fashion.”
Dundee FC has been behind on payments for 19 months, Melville added.
“We have offered £100,000, which has been rejected. I have also offered to pay the full amount in May next year and that also has been rejected.”
Melville, who has allegedly injected over £1.5 million into the club, expects that HMRC will communicate their decision next week. He believes there is a “distinct possibility of administration.”
This is the second time the club has faced administration in seven years. In 2003, Dundee escaped administration with debts of £23 million due to the support of fans’ group Dee4Life, which helped to raise funds.
